January at Poldhu Cove: Part 1

Hooray, a week down in a cottage situated just above the beach at Poldhu Cove on the Lizard. Hopefully we'll be able to fill in a few missing pieces of our Cornish Coastal Footpath jigsaw. We've been walking chunks of it ever since we've been down here and it would be nice to join up some contiguous stretches.

We arrived here (it's all of 60 miles from home) late in the afternoon and just had time to take a walk on the beach before it got dark. The building on the cliff top was a hotel but is now a nursing home. More interestingly, at the rear of this is the Marconi Museum on the spot where the eponymous engineer made the first transatlantic radio broadcast. Somewhat ironically, there is no mobile phone signal down here!

I call this one "Mermaid emerging from the Surf".  For the observant, the lights on the horizon are from a rather large ship, probably waiting off the coast before taking on a load of china clay at Par.
